We're constantly pouring out money from our pockets with bills and rent. But what if we told you some simple home improvements would help you save money. Not only will some of these improvements help lower your bills, but they will help prevent future repairs that will cost a lot more, and they will increase the value of your home. Sounds great, right! Let's check out the six ways to keep your pockets warm with cash.
Replace AC Filters
When sweating profusely or shivering under our blankets, we switch on that AC to cool or warm us up. And day after day, whether it's in use or not, the AC collects an abundance of dust. The dustier it is, the harder the engine has to work, meaning more electricity and a higher bill. So keep filters clean or replace them twice a year. This will help your air conditioner work less and lower your electricity bills.
Keep Shower and Tub Sealed
The caulking around your shower or tub will start to wither away. Recaulk it before water seeps into your walls or floors, creating mold or other expensive water damage.
Replace Toilet Tank
Does your toilet constantly run? After years of flushes, pieces inside the tank start to wear out. Stop wasting precious water and have them replaced. After, you'll notice a big difference in your water bill.
Add Weather Stripping around Doors and Windows
Don't let the cold wind or hot air seep through cracks around doors and windows, making your air conditioner work harder. Instead, seal the openings with weather stripping or caulk. The air inside your home will stay at the temperature you want longer, and you won't have to pay more for your electricity bill.
Fix Leaky Tap
Sometimes the tap doesn't close all the way, and you're left with an annoying constant drip. Some may ignore it or not even notice it. Don't be one of those people. A leaky tap can waste tons of precious water. Not only is the water wasted, but so is the money you'll spend on your water bill. As soon as you notice a "drip, drip, drip," cut it off immediately by installing a new tap.
Install Ceiling Fans
We're all familiar with summer as the most expensive time of year. With your air conditioning constantly running, so is the amount of money increasing on your electricity bill. However, a great alternative to air conditioners is ceiling fans. They circulate the air providing nice wind, requiring a lot less electricity. Installing ceiling fans will save you a big chunk of money in the long run.
